NEHEMIAH 1

Nehemiah is a cupbearear, a Jewish one as we know.
The book opens up with a news  that the wall of Jerusalm is "broken down and its gates were destroyed. " (Nehemiah 1:3). this means that Jerusalem is unwalled, the people who lived there are in constant stress, worries, anxiety, distress, anxiety, and what not. The people who are living in this unwalled city are more and more concerned about the possible attacks, what could be values that could have been stolen away, or worries for their families' lives.

the next few verses shows us that though Nehemiah was in Persia, His heart was in Jerusalem
verse 4 described that he wept, he mourned, and felt the heartache of this incident. He is a leader, and had to do something, but he definitely cannot do it all alone.  he fasted and prayed, and what this shows is that when crisis happens, Nehemiah brought it up to the Lord right away. shouldn't he be an example to us? When things fall apart, shouldn't we run to our God? To fast and pray before the God of heaven because He has the answer to everything. as a leader, there is an importance in prayer. He prayed in humility, recognizing the greatness of the Lord, that he recognized his complete dependence to God. He recognized that his people and he sinned, and the prayer went on. We see Nehemiah's dependence on God, and that's how we should be like. Be able to take on a leadership role, or whatever role God has called you, yet so dependent on Him
